Dirt | Part 3

Jesus Loves the Dirt
We should learn to be just as quick as Jesus was to draw a line in the dirt.

GROUP READING: John 8:1-11

GROUP DISCUSSION:

1. Jesus didn’t think twice about protecting this woman. He stepped between her and her accusers and ‘drew a line in the dirt’. Can you think of a time in which you had the chance to do the same? You may not have had to literally bend down and write in the dirt as Jesus did, but was there a time in which you needed to step in and defend someone? Did you? Did you not?

2. The Pharisees were both trying to trap Jesus, and take advantage of this woman. They were threatened by Jesus. Does stuff like this still happen wherever you are in this world? Are there those people who are threatened by the authority you carry (knowing the Holy Spirit lives in you) and at the same time, those who are vulnerable that know they will be protected by you?

3. Are you quick to respond to defend like Jesus was or do we think too hard about what the outcome may be? Jesus was constantly laying down his life for the most vulnerable and outcast. Are we? Or do we value our lives and comforts too much?

GROUP PRAYER:
Pray that we as men would not fear the bullies. Pray that we would learn to have strength to stand up for what is right even when the outcome may not be what we’d hope for. Pray that we would learn to stand up for the outcast, the vulnerable, and those that are taken advantage of. May we be men who are not afraid of getting a little dirty. May we be men who are quick to draw a line in the dirt and follow the example of Jesus. Amen and a thousand more amens.
