Dirt | Part 2
Whatever You Plant Will Grow… or Die.
What we choose to plant, consciously or subconsciously, matters deeply and echoes into eternity.
GROUP READING: Genesis 2:5 , Genesis 3:23 , Luke 6:47 , Matthew 18:18
GROUP DISCUSSION:
1. Knowing that we were all created to cultivate the land (and this goes deeper than physical soil), how should this affect what we actually plant? With our words? With our eyes? With our ears?
2. Freedom doesn’t mean doing whatever we want. Sometimes it means making decisions to not do something. What type of soil have you chosen to plant in? Have you seen benefits from cultivating a good relationship? Sometimes these take longer to grow. Have you seen the benefits from establishing a Godly gardening rhythm? What type of soil should we choose not to plant in? What usually happens when we feed the lust of our flesh? What happens when we continue to please ourselves? What happens when we walk forward with the same pride Adam had? What happens when we follow Christ?
3. When Adam and Eve left the garden, Adam was summoned to cultivate the dirt from which he came. Following the example of Adam, whatever we plant on our own will die. Following the example of the New Adam (Christ), whatever we plant will live forever. Which example will we follow? The world will tell us it is best to please ourselves and to do whatever we can to get to the top. The way of Christ tells us to take care of our neighbor, our brothers and sisters, and in doing this, we are loving God. Why is it so hard to cultivate good dirt sometimes? What can we do to overcome this struggle?
GROUP PRAYER:
Pray that we would continue to become men who care deeply about the dirt that we plant in knowing that our creator cared deeply about bringing this dirt to life. Pray that we would be men who breathe life into the dirt and not death. Pray that we would become men who submit to a better way than the first Adam. May we become men who wholeheartedly follow the example of Jesus. May we see that Jesus cared deeply for every seed that he planted. May we do the same. Amen and a thousand more amens.
